Homecoming

June 5, 692

Sorry I haven't posted anything for awhile but I was out on a boating trip. It was pretty cool. I went to Bithynia and it was so sweet. And when I got back Lesbia was waiting with all my friends for a welcome home party. I'm still recovering from that one. And on the way back I wrote this.

de phasello

PHASELVS ille, quem uidetis, hospites,
ait fuisse nauium celerrimus,
neque ullius natantis impetum trabis
nequisse praeterire, siue palmulis
opus foret uolare siue linteo.
et hoc negat minacis Hadriatici
negare litus insulasue Cycladas
Rhodumque nobilem horridamque Thraciam
Propontida trucemue Ponticum sinum,
ubi iste post phaselus antea fuit
comata silua; nam Cytorio in iugo
loquente saepe sibilum edidit coma.
Amastri Pontica et Cytore buxifer,
tibi haec fuisse et esse cognitissima
ait phaselus: ultima ex origine
tuo stetisse dicit in cacumine,
tuo imbuisse palmulas in aequore,
et inde tot per impotentia freta
erum tulisse, laeua siue dextera
uocaret aura, siue utrumque Iuppiter
simul secundus incidisset in pedem;
neque ulla uota litoralibus deis
sibi esse facta, cum ueniret a mari
nouissimo hunc ad usque limpidum lacum.
sed haec prius fuere: nunc recondita
senet quiete seque dedicat tibi,
gemelle Castor et gemelle Castoris.

It seems that ship, stranger,
which was the swiftest vessel,
and no attack from any floating vessel is able to get through,
weather the work might fly from the oars or the sails.
And this denied that menacing Adriatic
Was not the shore of the island of Cyclades
And noble Rhodes and the wild Thrace
And the sea of Marmora to without the peace of the Black Sea
(when before this was a future vessel it was a leafy forest—
For Mt. Cytorius in joining
Spoke often of the rustling of leaves).
Amastrius on the Black Sea and Mt. Cytorius producing box-wood,
Which has been and is known to this ship,
Made from the final origin you set up in the peak,
He drenched his palm in the sea;
And from that point on the sea boiled up for he was wild
He called the wind weather left or right,
Or weather Jupiter and at the same time the second occurred in the corner;
And not any avoided the shore where the god himself did the deed,
When he comes to the sea
The last which was this constantly clear lake.
But that before fled; now recognized
The old repose and he dedicated this,
The twin Castor and the twin Pollux.

I'm thinking that its gonna get pretty serious with Lesbia and I but you never know what the future holds.

An encounter

May 20, 692

So Lesbia and I actually went on a date yesterday. It was pretty awesome. I really think we're connecting. I even did one of these txting things from the commercials on MTV and it said that we were a perfect match. And after our date last night i wrote this.

fletus passeris Lesbiae

LVGETE, o Veneres Cupidinesque,
et quantum est hominum uenustiorum:
passer mortuus est meae puellae, passer,
deliciae meae puellae,
quem plus illa oculis suis amabat.
nam mellitus erat suamque norat
ipsam tam bene quam puella matrem,
nec sese a gremio illius mouebat,
sed circumsiliens modo huc modo illuc
ad solam dominam usque pipiabat.
qui nunc it per iter tenebricosum
illuc, unde negant redire quemquam.
at uobis male sit, malae tenebrae
Orci, quae omnia bella deuoratis:
tam bellum mihi passerem abstulistis
o factum male! o miselle passer!
tua nunc opera meae puellae
flendo turgiduli rubent ocelli.

Mourn, o Veneres and Cupid,
And of all the lovely people that exist:
The sparrow is dead my girl,
The sparrow, my delicate girl,
Which you loved more than your own eyes
For he himself was honey-sweet and
Himself as well as a girl’s mother,
But circumstances at one time or point that at another
To the alone mistress constantly chirping:
For now that road has become dark,
From which they refuse to return.
But speak of bad, Dis of the evil darkness,
Who devours all good:
So keep away my good sparrow.
O evil deed! O poor little sparrow!
You my girl now eye the work of
This red swollen fledgling.

well there it is. right now im waiting to here from Lesbia....

So It begins....

May 18, 692

Perhaps I am a fool or some kind of jester but my writing is sweet poetry. The thoughts that enter my mind and over power my desires compel me to act irrationally. So I beseech you, Internets, hear my call and let my poetry be super awesome.

Well now that I'm done praying to the all powerful Internetus, let me introduce myself. I'm Catullus and write about stuff. Awesome stuff. And today I met this chick at the forum and she totally digs me. So here's the first of hopefully many of my poems to her.

PASSER, deliciae meae puellae,
quicum ludere, quem in sinu tenere,
cui primum digitum dare appetenti
et acris solet incitare morsus,
cum desiderio meo nitenti
carum nescio quid lubet iocari
et solaciolum sui doloris,
credo ut tum grauis acquiescat ardor:
tecum ludere sicut ipsa possem
et tristis animi leuare curas!

Yeah I write in Latin, but only because I'm edgy like that. But here's a translation for all you barbaric heathens who can't talk the talk...

Sparrow, my girl’s pet,
With whom you play, when in the soft fold,
Whose attack upon her finger tip
And only provoke a harsh bite,
When I long for my shining
Joke to be pleasing which I know not,
And comfort your pain,
I believe, that then your severe tension subsided:
When I wish you would play the same way with me
And soothe my mind of my desire for you!
They bear As much as my girl is pleasingly
Leggy flees the golden apple,
Which loosens her belt.

Well that's the end of the first installment so I hope all you soon to be fans like it. And don't worry, I'll keep you posted on how it goes with that chick. I think her name was Lesbia.
